New Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzles for Sunday, 5/10/2009

Today is Mother’s Day, a wonderful day to remember and honor the moms and grandma’s in our life. Not to mention wives, daughters, aunts, sisters-in-law, and perhaps even exes, if you're smart (and have kids).

Mother’s Day has also turned into one mother of a commercial success. According to Big Dates.com (http://www.bigdates.com/holidays/mothersday.asp), Mother’s Day is the biggest holiday for making phone calls, sending flowers, and eating out in restaurants!

The worldwide observance may have grown from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece. A festival to Cybele, a great mother of gods, was held around the Vernal Equinox in mid-March.

The first Mother's Day celebrated in the U.S. is believed to have taken place in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908, where Anna Jarvis, a woman who had led Women’s Work Days during the Civil War, had taught Sunday School. Grafton remains the home of the International Mother's Day Shrine.
