All I ever do is work," Tom droned.
A Tom Swifty is an adverbial pun that simultaneously describes a speaker and refers to the speaker's statement. The name comes from the Tom Swift book series for young readers. The authors were roundly criticized for overusing adverbs and descriptive phrases, so that Tom hardly ever said "said" and rarely said anything without a qualifying adverb. A Tom Swifty pun is a parody of this style.

Welcome to Autumn!

Today is the Autumnal Equinox. An equinox is either of two points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and the celestial equator intersect. In other words, it's one of the two times each year when the Sun crosses the equator and day and night are of approximately equal length. Equinoxes occur because the Earth's axis of rotation isn't aligned with the plane of its orbit around the Sun: it tilts over by about 23½°.

The Autumnal Equinox signals the end of summer. In the Northern Hemisphere, days have been shortening since the Summer Solstice some three months ago. After this point, the Sun will shine lower and lower on the horizon until the Winter Solstice in about three more months; nights now begin to grow longer than days, and continue to do so until the Winter Solstice. And just the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere!

Two quotes for you to puzzle out, to celebrate this day!
