Grandparents are our heritage and are essential members of our families and communities.”

A West Virginia coal miner’s wife founded this day, Grandparents Day, in 1973. Marian McQuade raised 15 children! And no fewer than 40 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren benefited from her passion! The quote above is from http://www.grandparents-day.net/. Mrs. McQuade died almost exactly a year ago, at the age of 91. A tribute to her is on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/v/PUpHZKaeR3w.

Today’s Qudoku puzzle set spells out the purposes of this day: to pay honor and show respect for those who have led the way for the rest of us.

This day has a threefold purpose:…”
