Extra (Words within) Word Sudoku Puzzles for Tuesday, 3/31/2020: BLADE

While many of us are #AloneTogether, isolating, quarantining or social distancing, some of us are struggling for fun things to do. I'll try to fix that for you, for a brief while, with the interactive puzzles below.

This is a new variant of Word Sudoku for which I'm planning a series of books. Look for the first one later this year on my Amazon author page, www.bit.ly/WordSudokuBooks.

Each of the Word Sudoku puzzles below uses four of the letters in the word BLADE.

I've labeled each puzzle with the letter to omit. In each puzzle, As always, the one and only one rule is:

Every row, column and 2x2 square contains each of the remaining four letters
The hidden word spells out in the shaded cells

You can print this page and solve the puzzles with your pen or pencil. Or you can click on the label below each puzzle and solve it online interactively. Please let me know your suggestions for how you'd like to interact with the puzzle and its layout (comment on the blog).

Hidden words that are rare and/or obsolete words or names: (All of these are words!)

Good luck! Solutions tomorrow.

New Word Sudoku (Swifty Sudoku!) Puzzles for Saturday, 3/28/2020

"Let's go for another gallop," Tom recanted.

A Tom Swifty is an adverbial pun simultaneously describing the speaker and the speaker's statement. The name comes from the Tom Swift book series for young readers. The authors were roundly criticized for overusing adverbs and descriptive phrases, so that Tom rarely said anything without a qualifying adverb. (The fact that they did this on purpose, to make the books laugh-out-loud funny to read, didn't blunt the criticism.) A Tom Swifty pun is a parody of this style—no longer related to Tom at all—that will make you groan out loud.

You might have noticed that the last Swifty Sudoku puzzle set of the month is a bit harder—I'm adding a lot more puzzles. You usually get two to four Word Sudoku puzzles to fill in the quote grid; today's puzzle set has seven. The weekday puzzles get harder during the week; the weekend puzzles get harder during the month.
