New Word Sudoku Puzzles for Thursday, 7/31/2008

New Word Sudoku Puzzles for Thursday, 7/31/2008

Two puzzles for you today, the first the regular classic 9x9 Word Sudoku puzzle, based on the word WRESTLING:

Puzzle: WRESTLING
Each row, column and 3x3 square contain the letters in the word or phrase exactly once

And now the real challenge: a 16x16 Word Sudoku puzzle, with 4x4 internal squares, where some cells in the Sudoku grid are circled and numbered; they correspond to the numbered cells in the quote grid below. Solve both the Sudoku and the quote. You may of course choose to use your world knowledge to fill in some letters in the quote grid and then use them to fill in the Sudoku grid; but you never have to: The Sudoku puzzle is designed so that you can solve it on its own, completely independently of the quote.

16x16 Word Sudoku Puzzle: X-RAYS HUNG PIVOTED
Each row, column and 4x4 square contain the letters in the word or phrase exactly once
Letters in the hidden word or phrase are circled and correspond to numbers in the answer rows

Solutions tomorrow morning. Good luck!

Thanks,
--Dave

New Word Sudoku Puzzles for Friday, 7/25/2008

New Word Sudoku Puzzles for Friday, 7/25/2008

The first of two puzzles for you today is the standard daily 9x9 Classic Word Sudoku puzzle, based on the word VEHICULAR:
Puzzle: VEHICULAR
Each row, column and 3x3 square contain the letters in the word or phrase exactly once

The second puzzle is a lot harder, I think. It's a 10x10 Hidden Word Sudoku puzzle, with 2x5 internal rectangles, using the letters in the anagram OUTER PANIC. Remember that, since the puzzle is a Hidden Word down the diagonal, the diagonal must also contain each symbol exactly once.

And since it's a 2-column Sudoku puzzle, remember a property very useful to you: Because two columns also break in half and reform as two stacked rectangles, whatever set of symbols that fill the upper half of one column must exactly match the set of symbols in the lower half of the opposite column.
Consider columns 3 and 4, counting from the left. The upper half of column 4 shows the symbols N, A and O. Compare that to the lower half of column 3: A, O, R and C. So the missing letter in the lower half of column 3 is N, and the two missing letters in the upper half of column 4 are C and R...see?

10x10 Hidden Word Sudoku Puzzle: OUTER PANIC
Each row, column and 2x5 rectangle contain the letters in the word or phrase exactly once
The hidden word or phrase is spelled down the diagonal

Solutions tomorrow morning.
