Today is Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday. Many states and cities in the U.S. used to celebrate it in America as a semi-official holiday--or at least note it. But now, for the most part, it’s combined with George Washington’s Birthday (February 22) into President’s Day, celebrated on the third Monday in February, which falls in-between the two leader’s actual birthdays. Actually, the third Monday can fall on any date between the 15th (when the 1st is a Monday) and the 21st (when the 1st is a Tuesday).

In honor of Lincoln's birthday, I present you a Qudoku puzzle set based on three 6x6 Word Sudoku puzzles, spelling out a very famous Lincoln quote.

Today is Groundhog Day! You know, the day the famous groundhog uses his shadow to predict the end of winter. Which groundhog, you ask? As it turns out, acording to Wikipedia, there are quite a few to choose among: Balzac Billy, Buckeye Chuck, Dunkirk Dave, General Beauregard Lee, Jimmy the Groundhog, Malverne Mel, Pat Lane, Queen Charlotte, Shubenacadie Sam, Sir Walter Wally, Staten Island Chuck, West Indies Wilbur, and Wiarton Willie. And don’t forget the most famous of the bunch: Punxsutawney Phil.

In honor of this tradition, I offer you two quotes, based on four Word Sudoku puzzles of varying sizes. The first is part of the history of this day: The celebration of Groundhog Day began with Pennsylvania's earliest settlers. They brought with them the legend of Candlemas Day:

I came across a small book while grocery shopping this weekend that immediately caught my attention. It’s “instant karma: 8,879 ways to give yourself and others good fortune right now” by Dr. Barbara Ann Kipfer. You may have heard of her because of her bestselling “14,000 Things to be Happy About,” or any of more than two dozen other books she’s written. She holds PhD’s in linguistics and archaeology, as well as a master’s degree in Buddhist studies; and she’s also Chief Lexicographer for www.Dictionary.com and www.Thesaurus.com, two Web sites I use a great deal.

“instant karma” is a small-format book, about 4” square, from Workman Publishing. It’s just a delight! It’s chock full of (8,879!) one-liners to create good karma. Just what each of us needs, so we can open it up to a random page anytime we want, and feel the good effect!

I was inspired to create a Karmic Qudoku puzzle set for you to solve. Maybe I’ll do this once a month…we could all use a constant dose of good karma!
