Solutions to the Saturday Swifty Word Sudoku Puzzles

Yesterday’s Qudoku puzzle set spelled out an adverbial pun known as a Tom Swifty. This one shows Tom worrying about his legacy--or lack. Or should I say: Tom doesn’t know when to quit--or quit-claim…

BTW, this is as close as I’ve come to apologizing for a Tom Swifty…but…nope! I warned you they’d be groaners! (Have you ever noticed that the sets of letters in groan, agony and angry are pairwise one letter apart?)

New Word Sudoku (Swifty Sudoku!) Puzzles for Saturday, 4/7/2012

(wordle.net)
My pencil is dull," said Tom pointlessly.
A Tom Swifty is an adverbial pun that simultaneously describes a speaker and refers to the speaker's statement. The name comes from the Tom Swift book series for young readers. The authors were roundly criticized for overusing adverbs and descriptive phrases, so that Tom hardly ever said "said" and rarely said anything without a qualifying adverb. A Tom Swifty pun is a parody of this style that will make you groan out loud.

Tom is whining especially loudly today…and long-windedly, too...

Extra Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzle for Sunday, 4/1/2012

As you might guess, I do the daily crosswords in the newspaper. Sundays, I especially enjoy Frank Longo’s Premier Crossword that appears in Portland’s newspaper, The Oregonian. Today, Frank outdid himself in cleverness—which, if you do any of his crosswords, you know is really saying something! He played off seven anagrams of today, each 13 letters (not counting spaces or punctuation, of course).

I present you an extra Qudoku puzzle set in honor of today, inspired by Mr. Longo!
