New Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzles for Wednesday, 5/27/2009

Last week we began a new theme from EmAndLo.com detailing the top 6 breakup lies (http://www.emandlo.com/2009/03/the-top-6-breakup-lies/).

Emma Taylor and Lorelei Sharkey have co-authored six books on sex and love and write for a long series of popular magazines. They blog on their own Web site, www.emandlo.com, several times a day.

In mid-March these online advice gurus wrote an article on breakup lies; I’ve turned these ‘empty lines’ into Qudoku puzzle sets. Today I’ll present the third and fourth most-used ‘dumper’ lies.

Today we’re continuing our month-long focus on Qudoku puzzle sets—quotes you ‘discover’ by solving Word Sudoku puzzles. Late last week we began a new theme from EmAndLo.com detailing the top 6 breakup lies (http://www.emandlo.com/2009/03/the-top-6-breakup-lies/).

Emma Taylor and Lorelei Sharkey call themselves the Emily Posts of the modern bedroom. They’ve co-authored half a dozen books on sex and love. They write for a long series of popular magazines, including Glamour, Slate and Men’s Health. Today is Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May commemorating men and women who have died in military service to their country.

It began first in honor of Union Army soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include all those who died in any war or military action.

Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials; U.S. flags are flown at half-staff from dawn until noon.

Americans also view Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of summer.

The official birthplace of Memorial Day is Waterloo Village in New York, because it observed the day back in 1866, and each year since.

"I know who turned off the lights," Tom hinted darkly.

A Tom Swifty is an adverbial pun that simultaneously describes a speaker and refers to the speaker's statement. The name comes from the Tom Swift book series for young readers. The authors were roundly criticized for overusing adverbs and descriptive phrases, so that Tom hardly ever said "said" and rarely said anything without a qualifying adverb. A Tom Swifty pun is a parody of this style.
