New Word Sudoku Puzzles for Saturday, 3/20/2010

Today is the Vernal Equinox—traditionally, the beginning of Spring. As always, we turn to Wikipedia for a concise definition: In spring, the axis of the Earth tilts more toward the Sun and the length of daylight increases; the hemisphere begins to warm significantly, causing new plant growth to spring forth. Spring is seen as a time of growth, renewal, of new life; spring is a metaphor for the start of better times.

Astronomically speaking, an equinox occurs when the tilt of the Earth's axis is neither away from nor towards the Sun—the Sun being vertically above a point on the Equator. This happens twice a year. The term equinox is used in common language as the date when an equinox occurs.
