Yesterday’s Qudoku puzzle set spelled out an adverbial pun known as a Tom Swifty. Tom took the day off, and I think this one needs an explanation. It presents an historically accurate account of the discussion between Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge and General Wellington during the June, 1815 Battle of Waterloo. A cannon ball hit Uxbridge’s leg, which then had to be amputated. The two men then exchanged these strangely banal comments. In a bizarre historical twist, Uxbridge’s amputated leg became a tourist attraction in Waterloo!
