Extra Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzle for July 4, 2012

Frank Longo is a well-known and highly respected crossword puzzle constructor. He syndicates a “premier crossword” 21x21 puzzle that runs in my local paper, Portland, Oregon’s The Oregonian, Sundays. This past Sunday Longo’s crossword “Independence Day” contained eight names and one 21-letter phrase describing how these eight people are connected by this day in history. Quite a feat in one crossword! This Qudoku puzzle was inspired by Longo’s puzzle.
