My previous blog post set you to uncover some quotes from Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, a speech historians call one of the most famous in American history. But some newspaper editorials of the day pooh-poohed President Lincoln’s speech Nov. 19, 1863, calling it a political sham. The Harrisburg, PA Patriot & Union lambasted every politician in the grandstands for grandstanding, and utterly dismissed Lincoln’s words:

Until last week. The modern-day Harrisburg, PA Patriot-News retracted its predecessor paper’s 150-year old editorial, using language seemingly meant to reflect the tone of the speech made so long ago.
