Extra Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzle for Monday, 5/6/2013

Our staff meetings at work can be loads of fun. Last week, our leader introduced a new word: shambolic, meaning chaotic. The British English word comes from the noun shambles, meaning a mess or muddle.

Of course, I immediately recognized that shambolic has nine distinct letters, so I could use to create a 9x9 Word Sudoku puzzle.

But—of course—I didn’t stop there. How could I with such an interesting word?

So I looked for words in the word (only made of letters in the word); and I looked for common phrases that contain all the letters in the word.

You benefit from my nerdiness: For the next week, I’ll present you a series of extra puzzles—Word-from-Word Sudoku puzzles and Hidden Word Sudoku puzzles, all based on the letters in the word shambolic.

Let’s start with five common words or phrases that contain all the letters in shambolic.

Next, let’s explore some of the words inside the word shambolic—made up only of letters in shambolic. Which letters? That adds to the challenge: I give you only the letters in shambolic that are not in the hidden word; your first job is to figure out which letters remain, to form the hidden word.
