The all-white team defied their state’s Governor to face a team of young black men. The game and the changes it created far outlast whatever the score was.

New Word Sudoku (Swifty Sudoku!) Puzzles for Saturday, 3/16/2013

Mutton makes men macho," bleated Tom sheepishly.
A Tom Swifty is an adverbial pun that simultaneously describes a speaker and refers to the speaker's statement. The name comes from the Tom Swift book series for young readers. The authors were roundly criticized for overusing adverbs and descriptive phrases, so that Tom rarely said anything without a qualifying adverb. A Tom Swifty pun is a parody of this style that will make you groan out loud.

Extra Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzles for Friday, 3/15/2013: The Game of Change

This is more than a game; this is history.
50 years ago today, a basketball team from Mississippi State and one from Illinois made history. The team from Mississippi, all white, literally snuck out of the Magnolia state before an injunction could be served prohibiting them from playing an NCAA tournament game…against a team of young black men from Loyola.

The two teams made history. They changed our future. They played what’s become known today as the Game of Change.

Yahoo! sports has put together a moving tribute to this story, in the words of the players themselves. Please watch it: http://sports.yahoo.com/video/march-madness-game-changed-history-214200048.html. (ESPN produced a documentary in 2002.)

On this 50th anniversary, I offer you two Qudoku puzzle sets quoting the players remarking on the historic importance of their actions.
