I’m going to spend the month of May challenging you to solve Qudoku puzzle sets, where you must solve one or more Word Sudoku puzzles of various grid sizes to supply letters to a quote grid that in turn spells out some sort of saying, whether it be silly, shrewd, shocking or sympathetic. Or some strained synthesis.
I’m going to start by asking you a question: What are your words to live by? As you ponder, let me point out that Jessica Ashley, a staff member of Yahoo!’s Shine, asked us this question online in mid-March, 2009, in the Shine "Healthy Living" Section (http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/what-are-your-words-to-live-by-432108/#photoViewer=1). I liked her approach: a short intro, setting the stage; then a series of quotes. You click on some great representative photos to move through the quotes. The interactive feel is there, while the amount of content per page is kept low—so you’ll keep clicking through. And I bet you’ll find at least one of Jessica’s quotes that, as she says, she’s "loved, laughed at, and lived by (or at least tried)," also works for you.
Let’s find out. For the next week and a half or so, interrupted only by holidays with their own* Qudoku puzzle sets, I’ll present you Ms. Ashley’s eight chosen quotes, in the form of Qudoku puzzle sets. The first comes from what many might consider an unlikely source: President George W. Bush!
