New Word Sudoku (Qudoku!) Puzzles for Tuesday, 5/5/2009

Today is Cinco de Mayo ("The Fifth of May" in Spanish), a national holiday in Mexico and a day widely celebrated in the United States. It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces over Napoleon III's French Army in the Battle of Puebla on this date in 1862. And, historians will tell you, that victory probably helped end the America Civil War earlier than it otherwise would have ended.

It is a common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually celebrated on September 16.

Why is this day so popular in America? California Congressman Joe Baca explains, in today’s quote.
